Yes, you have to start by setting up a website. Wix, SquareSpace or WordPress have wonderful tools and templates to help you set up a simple and unique website. If you are busy doing your business, opt for a professional touch, and contact me for help.
Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram… the social networks are essential for small businesses. Pick those, where your potential customers hang out the most. Once you have set them up, use them! Make sure you post regularly, post relative subjects to your business and include unique content. Keep to a rule, where your promotional content should not exceed 1/3 of all your posts, so you don’t appear too much “In your face”. Use Canva, a great tool with free options, to create your own social media images.

To help you with the social media posting, use some great tools, that professionals use. This will make your life easier, as you can plan your posts days ahead, and ensure they appear across all platforms with a unified message, not taking away your precious time, from conducting your regular business. There are paid ones, like Hootsuite or SocialPilot, and some great and free alternatives, like Publer, and KuKu. I have not tried all of these myself, but am a happy user of Hootsuite and SocialPilot.

Once your web presence is set up, go to Google My Business and Bing Places for Business, to register your business for free, or pay Yahoo Localworks (costs around $29.99 a month) and list your business in 50 directories including Yahoo Local, Yelp, WhitePages, Bing, Mapquest and more.
The essential part of the new start-up business, is Business Stationery. You absolutely need to print your business cards, letterheads and envelopes to show the world that you are taking your business seriously. You also need an e-mail signature. Contact me for a quote.
Send e-mail blasts.
Engines, like MailChimp have free sending plans, perfect for small businesses. They also provide drag-and-drop blast building tools. Collect e-mail addresses from everyone you meet, and tell them you will send them some blasts. Do not overwhelm them with email every day, but do stay consistent. Use local professional groups! Attend their meetings, talk to as many people as you can, give out your business cards, and do not forget them when you meet next time! Little things go a long way.
PR and Sponsor local non-profits. Great way to promote your service is to give public a “taste”. Non-profit organizations will be very grateful, and you can make a name for yourself in the local circles.
Use YouTube! Create your own channel, make some short videos of your service or store, and post on YouTube. Keep them short and sweet. Use your available tools, like Windows Video Maker (If you are running Windows 10, and found that it didn’t come equipped with it it, download it here).
